Russia is home to many world renowned dramatists, poets, writers, political strategists and scientists. The works of many Russian authors has enamored many to their own brand of Russian literature. And its influence on the world cannot be denied.

There are many celebrated authors from Russia. Some are of old but they are forever immortalised in their masterpieces. Ideas and values inculcated in those legendary literature far more outlast the mortality of the writer. And we, the readers are enriched many times over with these fine work of art.

Leo Tolstoy is one such example. After all, who hasn't ever heard of his novels like "Anna Karenina" and "War and Peace". He is regarded as one of the greatest novelist of all time. Influencing several key figures such as Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi.

Born as Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy in the Tula region of Russia, Tolstoy was of Russian nobility. He is highly educated in law and oriental languages. And his literary and political views are pretty much shaped during his stay in Europe and having met other renowned authors like Victor Hugo. His works always served as an expression of his beliefs and philosophy.

Another great of Russian literature is Fyodor Mikhaylovich Dostoyevsky. He is both a writer and essayist most known for works like "The Brothers Karamazov" and "Crime and Punishment". His works are explorations of human psychology and often dealt with political and social issues. Perhaps, this is a direct result of Dostoyevsky's own troubled childhood.

He is the son of a military doctor who grew up materially comfortable. However, due to constant exposure to oppression and the plight of the poor, he developed a compassion for them at such an early age. This, along with his fascination of psychology and the social environment of his era has great influence in his works. Sigmund Freud himself compared "The Brothers Karamazov" to that of Shakespeare's "Hamlet".

There are many other Russian authors that has influenced the world over. Among which are Anton Chekhov, a short story writer and playwright and Alexander Pushkin, considered by many as the greatest poet in Russia. His works served as a catalyst for the great number of authors that blossomed after him.

Indeed, Russia is very rich in culture as well as in literature. Many of these literary pieces have survived as a legend in itself. And it served as an influence to countless men and women who would later play an important role in shaping history.
